A client who is Vietnamese speaking and lectures at a University in Sydney said that she has had success in slowing down her speech by restructuring her lectures, that is chunking them and doing exercises such as solving problems at the end of a chunk. This seems to stop her from getting 'overexcited' and therefore speaking so quickly that the students can't understand her. Her students said that she is easier to understand. (I'm going to take a little credit for that!!!)
